There are many promises in the Word of God that will bring us spiritual revival; we need only to claim them! Sister White counseled us to seek this very thing so many years ago. “A revival of true godliness among us is the greatest and most urgent of all our needs. To seek this should be our first work” (Review and Herald, 03/22/1887). If we needed it so urgently then, how much more now? Please join us in claiming these promises as we prepare our hearts for the revival of the Holy Spirit. He has promised the Latter Rain, so let’s take Him at His word!

The Holy Spirit and Its Fruit of Love
“I will put My Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in My statutes, and ye shall keep My judgments, and do them.”
— Ezekiel 36:27
“If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him?”
— Luke 11:13
“The fruit of the Spirit is love: joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”
— Galatians 5:22-23

The Love Chapter: 1 Corinthians 13
(Read daily; see Review and Herald, July 21, 1904 par. 1)
“I I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not love, I am become as sounding brass, or a clanging cymbal. And if I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries, and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, and have not love, I am nothing. And if I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, and have not love, it profiteth me nothing.
Love suffereth long, and is kind; Love envieth not;
Love…
vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not its own, is not provoked, taketh no account of evil, rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth with the truth, beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
Love never faileth.
But whether there be prophecies, they shall be done away; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; Whether there be knowledge, it shall be done away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, that which is in part shall be done away. When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror, darkly; but then face to face: Now I know in part; but then shall I know fully even as also I was fully known.
But now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; and the greatest of these is love.”
Corporate Confession
(Leading to Typical and Antitypical Revival)
“If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against Me, and that also they have walked contrary unto Me; And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity: Then I will remember My covenant with Jacob, and also My covenant with Isaac, and also My covenant with Abraham I will remember; and I will remember the land. The land also shall be left of them, and shall enjoy her Sabbaths, while she lies desolate without them: and they shall accept the punishment of their iniquity: because, even because they despised My judgments, and because their soul abhorred My statutes.”
— Leviticus 26:40-43

Revival; Former and Latter Rain
Come, and let us return unto the Lord:
For He hath torn, and He will heal us;
He hath smitten, and He will bind us up.
After two days He will revive us:
In the third day He will raise us up, and we shall live in His sight.
Then shall we know, if we pursue to know the Lord:
His going forth is prepared as the morning;
And He shall come unto us as the rain,
As the latter and former rain unto the earth.
— Hosea 6:1-3
Ask ye of Jehovah rain in the time of the latter rain;
So Jehovah shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain,
To every one grass in the field.
— Zechariah 10:1
Spiritual Gifts
(especially of prophecy, 1 Cor. 14:39)
“To one is given by the Spirit a word of wisdom; to another a word of knowledge by the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit; to another gifts of healing by the same Spirit; to another miraculous powers; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another different kinds of tongues; to another interpretation of tongues: but all these work the one and the same Spirit, dividing to every man individually as it wills.”
— 1 Corinthians 12:8-11
“And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as messengers of glad tidings, and some as shepherds and teachers; for the perfecting of the holy ones, for the work of service, for the building up of the body of the Messiah: till we all come to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of the Messiah.”
— Ephesians 4:11-13
“And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you…
And it shall come to pass afterward, That I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh; And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out My Spirit.”
— Joel 2:25, 28-31
Remember the Law of Moses My servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments. Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of Jehovah.”
— Malachi 4:4-5
The Latter Rain Will Come Only If We Claim It
Friends, God is not waiting for some arbitrary date or event to send the Latter Rain. He is waiting for us to remove everything that stands in the way of His gifts. Revival cannot come without repentance. When we do this—when we abandon our pride, our resentment, our independent spirit, our worldliness—God will pour His Spirit upon His waiting people. Then we shall finally have that revival of primitive godliness that will bring sin to an end! Do you not long for that time? We pray that you do!
