What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) will be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. After approval of your comment, your profile picture, if available, is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Contact forms
If you use any form to contact us, you will be required to supply your e-mail address. We store this address securely and only use it to communicate with you. We will not share it with anyone else.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
You may choose to refuse or delete any and all cookies on our site. However, doing so may have a negative impact on some features we use to deliver the Service.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Analytics
We use an analytics service to collect information that your browser sends whenever you visit our Service (“Log Data”). This Log Data may include information such as your computer’s Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, browser type, browser version, the pages of our Service that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages and other statistics. We share this information with an analytics service only so that they can provide their service. You can read their privacy policy here. It is not used to identify you, nor does it include any information not directly related to our Service.
Who we share your data with
IP Address
We use plugins that may share your IP address with other websites through API calls if you interact with them. All such websites operate over secure connections.
Name and Email
If you sign up for email notifications, we will share your name and email with the third party service that we use to send those emails. Read their privacy policy here. We do not share your data with anyone else.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, we keep the comment and its metadata indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
If you sign up for email notifications, we keep your name and email in our records as long as you are on our mailing list. If you unsubscribe, we continue to retain your data in case you change your mind. You may request its permanent removal at any time, and we will delete it from our servers promptly.
We retain information collected via contact forms for one year. After this time, if there has been no further communication, we delete it from our servers.
What rights you have over your data
If you have any data on our servers (e.g. through commenting or joining our mailing list), you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data of yours that we hold. This does not include any data we must keep by law for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Children’s Privacy
Our Service does not address anyone under the age of 18 (“Children”). We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 18. If you are a parent or guardian and your child has provided us with Personal Information, please contact us. We will delete such information from our servers immediately.
Security
This website operates over a secure SSL connection to protect the personal data you provide to us. We also utilize a security plugin that uses a firewall and other methods to prevent hackers from accessing your data. The security of your data is important to us! However, please remember that no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We therefore cannot guarantee its absolute security.
Links to Other Sites
Our Service may contain links to other sites that are not operated by us. If you click on a third party link, you will be directed to that third party’s site. We strongly advise you to review the privacy policy of every site you visit.
We have no control over, and assume no responsibility for, the content, privacy policies or practices of any third party sites or services. Also, we cannot guarantee the accuracy of all the information on third party sites. You should assume that we endorse only the information we specifically link to or reference, unless otherwise stated on our Resources page.
