Adar Festival

14th and 15th: Feast of Lots

Important Adar Events in Biblical History

2nd: Jehoiachin, the last true king of Judah, was taken captive to Babylon in 597 BCE; the city of Jerusalem was destroyed, a twenty-fold week of years (140 yrs.) before it would be rebuilt again in 457 BCE through the decree of Artaxerxes, as prophesied in one of the ‘seven’s of Leviticus 26.
3rd: The temple was restored in 516 BCE (Ezra 6:15), a tenfold week of years (70 yrs.) after it was destroyed, thus fulfilling another of the ‘seven’s.
13th: The intended date of the destruction of the Jews according to the plan of Haman, which resulted in the feast of Purim.
25th: Jehoiachin was released from prison in the 37th year of his captivity, (561 BCE) by the Babylonian king Evil-Merodach (2 Ki. 25:27-28 & Jer. 52:31-32).

Meaning of Adar

‘Adar’ means ‘Glorious’ and for good reason: it brings a glorious ending to
the year, but it can only be this way through celebration. The feast to celebrate it is the Feast of Lots on the 14th and 15th. These days are called 'Purim', based on the Hebrew in the Book of Esther. In English, it would be translated to 'Lots'. A lot, or ‘pur’, is literally a broken piece; hence, a portion. Adapted from the Hebrew feast, this can be a feast for Christians to have a social meeting (on the 15th) to share how GOD led in each person’s lot—course of events—throughout the year, and thanksgiving can be made to Him. The 14th can be more geared towards personal and family reflection to prepare for that meeting.
