Shebat 178 New Moon Report

There are no reports of a sighting in the Jerusalem vicinity, but we are certain that the New Moon will appear tomorrow evening there; therefore, this month will have a 28th day—still rare for the last day of the month—and the New Moon Day will be on the third day into the Sabbath (Solar Day 310). You can write "New Moon" for that day and count up to 29 for the next New Moon Watch at the end of the month.

Important Shebat Event in Biblical History

1st: At the conclusion of the 40 years of wandering, Moses spoke to the children of Israel, according to all that Jehovah had commanded him to give to them (Deut. 1:3).

Meaning of Shebat

‘Shebat’ means ‘Beating’, in reference to the beating rain that often pours during this season; it was used in Zechariah 1:7, spelled in the KJV as ‘Sebat’. Rain is biblically seen as a blessing, thus symbolizing spiritual blessings. Hence, we can pray for ‘a beating of blessings’. Blessings may sometimes come in the form of beatings—that is, trials that bring correction by the hand of a loving Father.

He that spareth his rod (Heb. ‘shebet’) hateth his son:
but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.”
~ Proverbs 13:24

Let us meditate this month on how God has corrected us in our lives from taking dangerous paths, that we may learn how to trust Him more. Rain is not always the form of beating in all parts of the world, however; in places like Minnesota, where we are, people take a real beating from the cold; hence, the photo of frost. Behold the beauty resulting from the beating.
